    Dear Committee,
I had some vey pleasantly surprising news today. I found out that I had won the Berkshire Ladies Championship for English Sporting last Sunday. It was completely unexpected.

Unfortunately, what was also unexpected was that I wouldn’t see a trophy for it until January 2013 when there will be a presentation at the AGM. The reason given for this change is to get more people to attend the AGM.

Congratulations. This has got to be the silliest idea I have heard for quite some time. Perhaps in 8 or 9 months, I’ll send you a trophy for it. If the committee are having difficulty drumming up interest in the AGM, then I suggest you ask yourselves why and address that problem rather than hold the County Silverware hostage in order to get bums on seats!

How ridiculous would it look if Olympic winners were told “Well done, we’ll give you your medal at the next IOC meeting because no one comes to that.” or “well done kiddies, your Sports Day trophy will be handed out at the next PTA meeting in 3 months time because attendance is low.”

Trophys, medals, ribbons, etc should be given out to winners when they are won; not NINE MONTHS after the fact.

I guarantee I won’t be turning up for mine.

Is it such a big deal to have to wait for the presentation. After all we are grown ups and not children, and also not olympians who are likely to be from the other side of the world.

This comment is brutally blunt and hopefully those trying their best to run the Berkshire CPSA will not take offence at being labelled “silly”.

The solution……true sexual equality. Just one class and no ladies trophy.

The presentation of a trophy was not the point. Okay… it was part of the point. The main point was that the decision was made to use the county trophies in order to entice people to the AGM. Personally, I’m going to need a better reason than that to turn up. Just because I’m the only one to say anything about it doesn’t mean that I’m the only one feels this way. Oh, and I didn’t call the members of the committe silly. I said it was a silly idea. There is a difference.

Daren O’Toole appears to think that the problem is women speaking their mind as his “solution” smacks of a desire to exclude women in order to keep them quiet. I noticed he didn’t suggest getting rid of the Vets and Juniors in his one class solution. It’s no wonder there are not more women in the sport with opinions like that making them feel so welcome.

It makes no difference to me when the trophy’s are given out, but ask yourselves if it were cash would your views change?
In reply to your comment Daren one class and no ladies trophy, I happen to agree, but it doesn’t solve the initial reason this thread was started it just sounds like a bit of a gripe on your behalf.

Dear all, before we go too far down this path let me clarify for you all the facts. Trophies are not presented at the AGM now in order to get bums on seats. Trophies are now presented at the AGM (like in many other counties) in order to do a proper job of celebrating the winners and hopefully having a lovely night out appreciating them. We also hope to get the press interested and by that increase the profile of clay shooting in the county.

The winning shooters do not go away from the shoot empty handed as all winners are now presented with a Gold County Medal. They also get to display their trophy for a full year.

La Donna I would be delighted if you come and join the hard working Berkshire committee, we are always looking for new ideas to interest the shooters in the county. You have my number please give me a call when you get time.
Can you confirm that you have your gold medal or had you left the shoot before the presentations.
    Best wishes
    Nicola.

Hello there, apologies for the delay in replying.

First, congratulations LaDonna for winning the 2012 Berks Champs for ladies. Well shot!

This year the committee voted for a change whereby the county winners would all receive their trophies at the AGM where we can all gather, celebrate and congratulate the winners in a friendly atmosphere. A bit like an awards ceremony. It is also hoped to encourage participation and demonstrate what goes on, and allow members to have their say.

All county winners will have a medal presented to them on the day of the competition, at the end.

Any queries, please contact me or any other committee member.

    regards
    Toby

  5. Just to clarify, this decision was suggested by the committee and then put to the floor at the 2012 AGM where the majority of members present voted positively to have the trophies presented at AGM’s in the future years.

    Jon.
